Standard electrocoagulation is used in the operating room to stop tissue from bleeding. Coagulation (blue button) profile generates electrical currents to ablate blood vessels, sealing them and stopping the bleeding. Cut (yellow button) profile creates electrical currents to cut through tissue, instead of using a blade. Covidien® (Minneapolis, MN) produced the smart option (white button). The smart triverse pencil provides a combination of coagulation and cutting to stop bleeding without charring of the tissue.
